The visit went better than expected since most almost-two-year-olds I know cry when they see Santa. We got there early to watch a several dozen other children look excited when they sat on Santa's lap. Jim also gave her a pep talk as we inched closer to the front of the line. She tensed up a bit when we walked up to the Big Man, but she sat on his lap without too much difficulty. However, she refused to smile. She did, eventually, manage to look pleasant (though still a little frightened) by the time the picture taking commenced. As soon as she climbed down, she immediately tore into her candy cane, and then she happily waved bye-bye when we were 20 yards down the mall. That's my Catherine!
