Starting Solids

Road Trip

"Miss Daisy, did I ever tell you about the first time I ever left the state of Alabama?  Hee hee hee, I just did!"

Andrew took his first road trip this weekend.  He acted like he was an old pro.  He napped when he was supposed to nap (which was most of the time) and played quietly when he was awake.  We even avoided any major diaper blow-outs!

I don't have any pictures of Andrew in the car--he was mostly sleeping.  We have several trips planned in the near future, so there will be ample opportunities.  I did get this picture of Catherine.  It is everything I DON'T normally allow.  She's watching a movie with her pillow and lovies while drinking a blue Icee.  "Terrible mom of the year" can be awarded right here.

Where were we going, you ask?  Why, to visit Grandmom, Granddad, and Aunt Allison.

Four-month Check-up.

We went to the pediatrician today for Andrew's Four Month Check-up.  He continues to be a happy and healthy little boy, measuring 26 1/2 in (95th% for height) and weighing 15 lb, 15 oz (75th% for weight).  The pediatrician said he looks perfect, and was impressed by his strength.  She gave us a new medicine for his reflux and also gave us the go-ahead to start some cereal whenever we are ready.

Loco for Legos

A week ago I ordered a bigger box of Legos for Catherine as she started showing interest in the small batch we had.  Little did I know that I was going to unleash a Lego Monster.  They have become, by far, her most favorite toy in the house.  And oh my, the towers we've seen!

Slumber Party

Our good friends, the Clemens family, were driving through town and stayed the night with us.  It was Catherine's first slumber party (if you count it as a slumber party when each girl sleeps in a different bed in a different room.)  The girls had so much fun.  They ran around outside playing with silly string, they made a point to all sit in a row at dinner, they took turns nicely playing in the basement, and then they made sure to all wear their Hello Kitty nightgowns before brushing teeth and reading stories together.  I wish I had gotten a photo of the three of them sitting in a circle on Catherine's bed with their nightgowns and wet hair taking turns pushing the "Mouse About the House" through the pages.  So precious.

Stealth Roller

Andrew is so sneaky.  We've been waiting for him to roll from his back to his tummy for weeks now.  He has been so close.  Then, the last 4 mornings, we have seen this on his video monitor...that's Andrew sleeping on his tummy.  So now I watch him during play times with a video camera close at hand to catch him in the act, but he continues to keep his new skill a nighttime secret. 

The Plague

Illness has struck the Driscoll household.  Surprisingly, the only ones not affected are Mommy and Andrew.  Dad went to check on Catherine this morning and found this...

She barely raised her head to tell him she was still tired and then fell right back to sleep. 

Little Fish

Catherine has come a long way since the beginning of the summer.  Swimming lesson with Coach Sarah Beth have been fantastic.  We're only half-way through the summer and look at our Little Fish!

Hello.

Hello.  My name is Andrew Wells Driscoll.  I am four months old, and I am an All-Night Sleeper.  I don't mean that I sleep for 6 or 7 hours like my new title may imply--I'm talking about a whole 12 hours of uninterrupted, beautiful, peaceful sleep.  And I've slept that way for four nights in a row!  My family is ecstatic.  Mommy and Daddy are jumping for joy, and Catherine is literally climbing the walls with excitement.

Let's all hope I can keep this up!!

(And yes, I prefer my thumb to those silly pacifiers mom keeps trying to push in my mouth!  Mommy says, "sigh.")

Jump-er-roo, Part Two

Our old trusty pal, the Jumperoo, made a repeat appearance in our lives this week.  Andrew loves it!  (I think Catherine is a little nostalgic, too--she enjoys "teaching him how to use it.")  He'll tolerate the standing, slightly bouncing position for about 15 minutes before fussing.  I'm just impressed he can hold himself upright in it without a blanket for body support or a phone book to help his feet touch the ground.  Sniff, sniff...they grow up so fast!

Muscle Man

Andrew might still be working on rolling the other direction (he gets from his back to his side and then sleeps that way now!), but he is starting to master a new skill--sitting.  He is one STRONG baby!  And he wants so desperately to be able to play with Catherine.  He is no longer content to lean back and just observe!

The 4th of July

Happy 4th of July to all of our Friends and Family!

We had a great holiday.  There was some late-night pool time last night, long naps for everyone today, some hamburger grilling, and of course some fireworks.  

Catherine continues to be very distrustful of anything loud!  At least she started the evening with the door OPEN this year.  (She later refused to sit outside on the front porch and watch the neighborhood fireworks show with us, but happily sat inside later watching the ones on TV.  I can't figure this girl out!)

This guy seemed nonplussed by it all.  He liked the lights.  Maybe he'll be my firework-lover.

 Warming up to the sparklers.  She kept asking for more and tried to write her name in the sky with them.  Ultimately, she really enjoyed herself..."as long as they are quiet, mom!"
