The pediatrician asked if she is using 8-10 words, and I had to laugh, because I think Catherine uses about 40-50 words regularly. My new favorite is that she says “please” while placing her hand on her chest (baby sign)…though she is smart and reserves it for when she wants something faster than usual. She understands many more words than that, and has turned into my little helper, following simple and two-step commands. She can point to almost all the pictures in her “100 first words” books, too. A new nighttime game is to point to all the family members in our wedding pictures in the hallway and practice their names. She points to and names more than a dozen body parts and can tell us the sounds of equally as many animals. Jim makes her say "neigh neigh" every night during bath time because it is his favorite. Catherine is starting to get the hang of her shape sorters, and she loves to work puzzles. She also has started trying to pick out her own outfits...and so the fashion battle begins.
Unfortunately, despite our attempts to minimize TV watching, she loves it, and she certainly has her favorite shows. This is a typical position for Elmo-watching.
We love being parents to our independent, affectionate, sweet, precocious Catherine.
As a treat, here is video of one of Catherine's newest tricks. She has learned how to climb up and go down her slide all by herself. This can go on for hours, as long as the baby doll, the teddy bear, the elephant, and mommy and daddy take turns, too.
