A+ check-up

Catherine got an A+ from the pediatrician on Monday. The doctor complimented us on how happy and active she is for a nine-month old. She continues to be a long, lean, crawling machine, measuring in at 30 inches (off the charts at >95%) and 20 lbs 15 oz (80%, we should have eaten those last two bites of breakfast before her appointment--Jim and I had an over-under bet at 21 lbs)!


Now for an update...the bumpers have been re-installed. Their removal seemed like a good idea, but you see, we had a pacifier problem.

Let me back up. At Catherine's 6-month check-up, we mentioned that she was waking up at 2:30 some mornings searching for her pacifier, and we were just walking in, replacing it, and immediately going back to bed. Our pediatrician recommended either weaning the pacifier or putting like six in her crib so she could always find one. My boards and Jim's exams were coming up, so we weren't interested in the weaning process, and we literally put six in her crib that evening. She slept the whole night. Jim heard her giggling at 7:00 the next morning and walked in to find that she had gathered each one and put them in a pile and was dragging the pile around with her lovie. It was really funny.

So, flash forward to the present. We have worked our way down to 3 crib pacifiers for a total 12-hour night sleep. Catherine likes to place them slightly underneath the bumper edge so she can find them in the middle of the night. At 1:30 a.m. on Sunday night, after the bumpers had been removed, we awoke to hysterical crying. Jim went to check it out and wished he had a camera, because he found Catherine crawling the Baby500...making laps around the crib as fast as she could, and only getting faster, searching for the pacifiers in their usual hiding places and getting more and more upset that they weren't there. Without bumpers they had all fallen to the floor. He handed her one, she put it in her mouth, sighed, and immediately fell back asleep.

Thus, the bumpers have been replaced. We will wean the pacifiers when Jim's tests are completed, and then we will remove the bumpers!
