I thought long and hard about what to title this post. The Hustler. Manipulated. Spoiled. The Lost Word.
Allow me to explain. Grandmom and Granddad were gracious enough to come care for Catherine and Andrew on Friday while Gigi was away. Grandmom was on Andrew duty, and Granddad had the pleasure of chasing after Catherine. She had grand plans for the two of them, including "G-dad is going to run around and tickle me and then tie me into knots!" G-mom and G-dad thankfully remembered generally how to take care of children, but they forgot how to say "no."
For example, upon waking Catherine announced she wanted Apple Jacks for breakfast. She knows we have a box in the cupboard for special treats, but G-dad didn't know that so poured her a bowl. And when she finished the first bowl, and asked for another, he obliged. Then they went to the park where they played for 1 1/2 hrs and then sat on the rocks by the pond making friends with a duck they named "Quack." Upon returning home, instead of presenting Catherine with a mommy-approved snack, G-dad asked her what she wanted, and the obvious response was, "Apple Jacks!" When he reached for a bowl, she slyly asked, "May I have the whole bag, please?" AND HE GAVE IT TO HER!! He got Hustled!
Later in the day at nap time, these two started with the requisite THREE books. When those were finished, Catherine asked for more. I don't know what transpired next, but many books were read, and no nap was taken. Hmmmm.
Both Granddad and Catherine had a marvelous time--they played every board game in the house and over-turned every basket of toys in the basement. I guess it is a grandparent's prerogative to spoil their grandchildren. But, it took me two days to reprogram her back to normal! And Andrew really enjoyed all the love from Grandmom!
